Get your squirt guns and pussy willows ready. Buffalo’s Dyngus Day parade is back for 2022!
Buffalo, NY is officially the Dyngus Day capitol of America, hosting the largest concentration of festival locations, polka bands and Polish traditions in the nation. After two years of not being allowed to celebrate the arrival of spring as we have in the past, this year we celebrate the new season and the re-awakening of the world in a way that only Buffalonians can. With the splashing of water and the spanking of pussy willow branches and a proud procession through historic Polonia.
In the Buffalo Polish community, Dyngus Day is celebrated similar to the way the Irish celebrate St Patricks Day. There are parades, polka music, dancing and drinking! Perogies are the favored food and Vodka is the favorite drink.
Woltz Insurance Agency’s Buffalo office has dedicated one window to Dyngus Day. The polish Eagle is on display, and well as Jack and Jill with their pussy willows ready with their squirt guns loaded to get each other wet.
Dyngus Day always falls on the Monday after Easter. This year, Dyngus Day will take place on Monday, April 18th. Activities in the Buffalo-Niagara region have expanded to one week of events.
